1953 Conoco Oil advert featuring a Schwebebahn for LA

Described here as a monorail overhead transit system, but basically a Schwebebahn as used in Wuppertal, Germany (see earlier post) - a notion that seemed to be popular at the time (see the Winstone sponsored artwork for Auckland of 1956 post).

The salient aspect of this is that despite beliefs which persist to the present in LA, the oil companies of the time weren't out to scuttle public transit systems so they could sell more oil to car drivers.
