electric multiple unit on the Bodensee-Toggenburg Bahn, Switzerland, 1962
A four part electric multiple unit on the the Bodensee–Toggenburg-Bahn. This was a small railway jointly owned by the Canton and Federal governments which operated between Romanshorn on the Bodensee (Lake Constance) via St. Gallen, Herisau, Degersheim, Wattwil, and Ebnat-Kappel to Nesslau-Neu St. Johann (the location of this postcard) in northeast Switzerland, with a journey time around 76 minutes. In 2001 it merged with the SudOstBahn and the former identity was dropped.
The power car BDE 2/4 is a cabbed motor car, only the front bogie of the car has traction motors, one on each axle. Service weight of the motorised car: 58 tonnes; one hour output rating: 590 kW. Maximum speed: 90 km/h.
