Leyland Octopus truck

A Leyland Octopus with an LAD type cab is shown at Barrow in Furness docks in the early 1960s. T. Brady and Sons, a family business, operated a large fleet of Leyland and AEC lorries, and are still in business today.

The lorry would have collected woodpulp from a freighter inbound from Sweden to be processed into paper at the local mill. In the left background sits a British Railways Metrovick class 28, built in 1958. Of 20 constructed, all were gone by 1968 except D5705 which survives in preservation at Bury.
