Santa Monica long wharf 1890s

Santa Monica has had several piers over the years: in 1891 Southern Pacific Railroad built this long wharf with train tracks in the expectation that it would be the beginning of a great harbour for the greater Los Angeles area, but things didn't work out that way. Info and movie clips are on this webpage The current Santa Monica Pier is actually two adjoining piers that long had separate owners.
