Well, that was the claim of this poster promoting train travel by the Chemins de Fer de l'Etat to Les Sables d'Olonne on the French Atlantic coast from about a century ago, and you could do the trip with a "direct trajectory from Paris in 7 hours without changing vehicle". Nowadays you can get a direct TGV there from Paris-Montparnasse that does the trip in half that time. Electric tramways are listed on the poster as one of the attractions.
