another odd postcard

A scene like this would nowadays engender sympathy rather than envy for the inhabitants and wouldn't do much for local real estate values! The "Donnersmarckhütte" was a Coal and Iron Works near Gleiwitz in Germany founded in November 1872 and employed about 8,000 people. It was deleted from the Commercial Register in 1927.

Gleiwitz since 1945 has been in Poland, respelled Gliwice.
