Ventimiglia then and now

Last month we did a big post on old Menton; about 10 km to the east of Menton is the Italian town of Ventimiglia which literally means 'thousand winds' (a good name for Wellington?) In French it is spelt Vintimille.

Both photos look towards Menton and Cap Martin in the distance.  The older view shows the railway station. This serves both the Riviera line in both directions (but there is a change of voltage between France and Italy) as well as the mountainous Col de Tende line into the hinterland which passes through France on its way to Cuneo.
