Menton then and now

We mentioned the New York Times long term day by day bestsellers in the previous post.  We don't know who New Zealand's international all time best-selling author is, but it is probably Katherine Mansfield (1888-1923), certainly she is the most famous.

A city that she spent a significant part of her life in was Menton on the French Riveria close to Italy, probably because of its climate and that it had a large number of British ex-pats living there.

Today there is an Avenue Katherine Mansfield in Menton which begins near the harbour, passes under the the railway line and twists up the hillside a little distance, see Google streetview below.  The above aerial photo is from the survoldefrance.fr website.
