P&O cruise liner Pacific Pearl arrives in Auckland, to be her home port


The P&O ship Ocean Village, now renamed Pacific Pearl is in Auckland for official renaming by New Zealand Olympic champion board sailor Barbara Kendall at Queens Wharf on Tuesday. The cruise ship is the first to call Auckland its home port. She departs on her first cruise as the Pacific Pearl on Wednesday.

After a 23 day traditional cruise which left the UK on 21 October via the Suez canal to Singapore, she underwent a multi-million dollar refit for her transfer to P&O Cruises Australia.

She was built by Chantiers de l'Atlantique in St Nazaire, France, in 1987-88 and completed in 1989
