I wonder if this photo was taken on one of the last days of tram operations. The grey car on the right of the photo is a Ford Consul MkII which only first appeared in late 1956. It is unfortunate that the AI colourisation has messed with the registration plates - as it always does, along with trying to alter the appearance of the grey Bedford truck which looks to a be a Post and Telegraph Dept model. The green van is a Commer, based on the Hillman Minx. Behind the Bedford is a Vauxhall L series, probably a six-cylinder Velox, the biggest selling large (ish) car in NZ through the 1950s.

ReplyDeleteIt is clearly a summer scene. It has not been colorized. All we did was remove blemishes, but these were not on the license plates.
