People like to comment about the 'good old days' of buses, but you can see in this photo how the old system of climbing steps to a high floor took time, and limited access to only those who could climb the steps. The newer low-floor buses make access easier and quicker, and allow older folks to get on with walkers etc. Important with an aging population. Add to that - wheelchair access. All of the recent model buses I drove have room for two chairs.
