"Drewry 0-4-0 locomotive. Makers number 2266. Gardner 6LW diesel engine. Built in 1950 for Kempthorne Prosser (now Ravensdown Fertiliser) at Aramoho, Wanganui. It was then sold to Waitaki NZR (later Affco NZ) as relief shunter for works at Wanganui and Feilding and later on sold to the private Hubs and Spokes Museum in Wanganui before being bought by SteamRail on 23 September 1997.
"The Drewry was first ordered for Kp's on the 10 November 1947. When built it left the works on the 8 February 1950 and shipped to New Zealand on the 27 February 1950 on board the "Suffolk". These Drewry’s records are as published by the Industrial Railway Society in the UK (A big thanks to Sean Millar for passing on this information). The first photo is of the Diesel shunter at work with NZR wagons at the K.P. Wanganui Chemical Works. Photo by J.F. Le Cren November 1951 (National Archives collection).
Although this engine is a good runner and SRW have taken the rust out and repainted the loco in the blue colour a number of years ago now, SRW currently have this loco stored due to a loose tyre on one of the wheels and a big air leak in the cab. SRW plan to finish off the restoration on their other two locos first before starting on this loco again. On a good note though SRW have been donated (for a donation) from the Waitara group a new set of wheels/axles for the loco with thicker tyres and many other spare parts. SRW are also thinking of repainting this loco into its original colours."
