Over 23,000 tons of steel and several years of work have gone into the project, which is expected to include historically accurate details such as the dining room, door handles, and a functioning steam engine to simulate the experience of being aboard the original ship. The project is estimated to cost around one billion yuan ($US 150 million), and the replica is intended to attract tourists from around the world as a five-star hotel and museum experience. One asks why ? 1500 plus souls perished on the tragedy , why make money from that, how will the family's related to those they lost feel on that. There are several replica's already of the ship in places that are relevant to its history -not China, and as far as I know all done in respectable taste . How far does this go when many other ships have been lost in peace and war with huge loss of life.
