As those who have our books know, Lumsden was a railway junction for many years, and from 1971 to 1979 was one end of the line for the heritage steam train the Kingston Flyer. The station still exists.
While moving trains aren't the intention of local heritage enthusiasts, the Lumsden Heritage Trust’s celebration of its rail history is extending to a static display to be called The Heritage Train. The two latest additions to the Lumsden Heritage Trust’s collection of vintage locomotives and carriages are an 1877 passenger carriage, C100, and an 1880 steam locomotive, D6, a gift of Dunedin's Ocean Beach Railway.
They will soon complement two other preserved heritage carriages, A119 and A525, to form The Heritage Train.
