Its one of the five sisters built at Cammell Lairds, Birkenhead in the early-mid 1920's for the South American -UK circuit. The ships named Almeda, Andalucia, Avila ,Avelona and Arandora were later modified in the 1930's with Mari form bow added -considered a way of reducing fuel with greater speed and had the name 'Star' added. All five became war casualties ,most famous was the Arandora Star which was given a white livery pre war but was torpedoed whilst carrying many Italian POW's.
