"Before the Nissan Leaf, this tiny electric box was the bestselling EV since World War II. The Sebring-Vanguard Citicar was a response to the 1973 oil crisis, with lead-acid batteries providing a 40-mile driving range and a measly 2.5-hp electric motor limiting the car to a top speed of 40 mph [64 km/h]. While several thousand were sold, the Citicar didn’t find widespread success due to its limited usability. Its square silhouette also makes the first-generation Nissan Leaf look like a work of art."
