Whippany Railway Museum Railbus No. 10, New Jersey
This arrived in 1918 and was placed in service between Morristown, Whippany and Essex Fells, New Jersey. It had a 45-horsepower motor and could travel at 35 miles per hour carrying 22 passengers. "The vehicle featured such "luxuries" as leather upholstered seats, interior lighting, heat, drop-sash crystal glass windows and passenger stop signal buttons. From all accounts, it appears that No. 10 performed admirably." During the decade of transporting passengers on the line, Railbus No. 10 averaged eight trips each day.
In order to turn the bus at the end of each run, two small, specially-built turntables were installed at Morristown and Whippany. At Essex Fells, the bus was turned on the Erie Railroad's large locomotive turntable.
