This was the daytime passenger train between Wellington and Auckland that was replaced by the Northern Explorer in 2012. Between Palmerston North and Hamilton it was often hauled by electric locos but in the Wellington to Palmerston and Hamilton to Auckland sections it was diesel hauled as here.
