Battery Point lighthouse, California

This is just outside Crescent City in the north of the state. (Out of interest this has the same latitude north as Wellington has south.) The 45 ft (14 metre) brick tower was built in 1856 as well as a granite keepers house. The focal height (above the sea) is 77 ft (23 metres). It was automated in 1953 and finally deactivated in 1982.

Nowadays, Del Norte Historical Society operates the Battery Point Lighthouse and Museum. The lighthouse is open to the public only when low tide permits access, as in the pic.
