With the first post exactly 10 years ago we asked, "everyone else is doing it, so why don't we?" At the time blogs were the main medium people used to share thoughts, news and historic video/pictures.
Since then, blogs of our type have largely been replaced by websites like Pinterest, tumblr and social media sites like Instagram and Facebook (or as some call it "Faceslap").
We haven't yet gone that way, however, not least because we don't like social media and Facebook in particular. A few years ago we predicted its demise because of the way bosses like Mark Zuckerberg behave. But despite all the scandals, maybe social media websites like his are not going away and it's getting to the point of "if you can't beat them, join them."
Our blog began very small and grew -- at the peak about 5 years ago we were getting an average of over 2,000 pageviews a day, sometimes over twice that. But recently that number has fallen away again to about 800 a day on average, for the reasons mentioned above.
Every post on here has involved on average about half an hour of time spent, variously researching facts or restoring pics to good condition -- and we don't get a cent from it: that's a lot of unpaid hours!
Thanks go to the many readers who have submitted pictures, links, additional information and just positive comments.
On the flip-side of that coin, however, there has also been a small number of those psychologically warped individuals known as trolls who enjoy being offensive and provocative, often anonymously (at least they think they are anonymous, they're actually easily traceable). As we have said to other bloggers, expect trolls, deal with them as need be (usually it's best just to ignore them) and forget them.
So, where to from here? For one thing we need to start selling the books sitting in our warehouse and that has to be the main focus -- your orders are welcome!
Remember too, if you need a production service for anything involving print or e-books/e-media, get in touch.
Congratulations, a lot of work and many pages I still have not read completely, however I trust your blog is to keep going and have enjoyed submitting over these years. If you want to use any of the images I place on my gallery page please feel welcome. Here's to another decade whatever it may bring. Cheers.
