In a literal sense -- this was one of the layouts on display at the Model Railex in Taita near Wellington last weekend.  It looks to be an OO9 scale and based on a Welsh prototype scene.

DSB MT class diesel-electric switcher

A total of 17 of these Bo-Bo type were built by Frichs of Denmark and entered service over 1958–1960. The original Frichs V8 diesel engines proved unreliable and the locomotives were rebuilt with Maybach-Mercedes V12 engines rated at 491 hp during 1969–1971.

The first class MT unit was retired in 1990 after a shunting accident; the remaining ones were not retired from DSB service until 1997–2000. MT 166 remained in use as a service locomotive (tjenestelokomotiv) until 2006.

A recently completed restoration by the Blenheim Riverside Railway which operates a 2 ft gauge line in Blenheim, New Zealand, between Beaver Station in the CBD, Brayshaw Park and Omaka Airfield.

Only 345 Swedish Kronor ($US 38) for a package price?  Well, it's a pamphlet from 1986 in our collection, so adjustments for inflation are needed.  The 14 day Inlandsbanan card now costs SEK 2,000 or $US 224.

The Inlandsbanan runs 1,363 km up the centre of Sweden from Kristinehamn to Gallivare (also a station on the Malmbanan -- see earlier) and needs two full days of travel, involving an overnight stop at Ostersund. In 1986 it was run by the SJ (state railway) but seems to be privately operated now.
