SJ electric multiple unit at Hässleholm, Sweden, 1955

An Xoa5 set of Statens Järnvägar (SJ) which were used between 1948 and 1986: a class of 6 three-car units constructed by ASEA and delivered in 1948. The design was very similar to the Xoa class delivered in 1947 to the Bergslagernas Järnvägar (Railways), but the Xoa5 class had a higher top speed of 135 km/h. The car bodies of the Xoa5 were manufactured by ASJ (AB Svenska Järnvägsverkstäderna) which also made the appearance slightly different. The trains were first used in express services on the main lines. During the 1970s, they were transferred to regional services in the Goteborg area. The last set was withdrawn from service in 1986. Axle arrangement: 2'-Bo '+ 2'-2' + Bo-'2; power output: 1,000 kW.
