Paekakariki steamers, 1975

It's pretty easy to to get pictures like this now, being the base of the Steam Incorporated Museum, but this was in the relatively early days of it.  One notes the billboard for a Mitsubishi Galant in the background. (Gary Francis pic)

Egypt responds to attack on Sufi mosque

Armed militants stormed the al-Rawda mosque after the conclusion of Friday prayers on November 24, killing 305, and injuring at least another 128.

Egypt’s army and police forces carried out air strikes and ground operations in surrounding areas of the al-Rawda mosque on Friday night, targeting militants believed to have been involved in the attack.

The Islamic State's adherents consider Sufi Muslims, like Shiite Muslims, to be heretics and so, in their depraved minds, deserve to be eliminated like anyone who doesn't subscribe to the IS ideology.

1974 Honda Civic

At the time 30-33 mpg was considered low consumption, but it's nothing special now.

1973 Ford Coach (Tourist Liner) in Milford Sound art

Belonging to Blue Bus Services on the first outing to the South Island. It never strayed far after the 1970s, being used more on lower valley services between Masterton and Featherston then Wairarapa school runs including a short stint with Trinity college. It was repowered with an Isuzu diesel around 1994 and retired for sale around 1999/2000.  Framed painting by Wallace Trickett.

Hitler's train 'Amerika' in Jellowa, September 1939

Talking to Nazi Foreign Minister Von Ribbentrop.
During the campaign in Poland.  At the time this was in Germany, today in Poland.  A Polish webpage with info here

"The Führerzug was a special train designed for Hitler which consisted of 15 cars: the Führer’s car, press secretary’s car, a car with a communication center, two saloon (diner) cars, a bath-car, two cars for escort and military units, two sleeping cars, two luggage cars, a car for security guards, and two armoured platform cars with antiaircraft guns. The Führer’s car was not armoured, however."

1961 Chevrolet Bel Air

The most obvious external difference between the Impala and the Bel Air was that the latter had two taillights on each side rather than three.  This one is a restoration-needed example.

For school use,  probably 1960s. Barge traffic is relatively small in France compared to Germany and the Netherlands.

NZ has the world's second highest number of motor vehicles per capita of major countries

No surprise that the USA is first. Australia is third. (San Marino, Monaco and Liechtenstein are wealthy mini-states; and Iceland isn't large.)
