when cartography becomes political: an Egyptian satirist is sued by Palestinians for omitting Palestine from a map on his show

It's claimed that Bassem Youssef insulted Palestinians and Arabs when, during an episode of his show the Democracy Handbook, a map of the Middle East that didn’t show Palestine and showed Israel instead was displayed in the backdrop, according to a Lebanon-based Palestinian advocacy group.

Ironically, the opposite happened two years ago when New York publisher HarperCollins--owned by Rupert Murdoch's News Corporation--omitted Israel from an atlas intended for sale in the Middle East, but clearly showed Gaza and the West Bank, citing 'local preferences'.  It was forced to withdraw and pulp all copies.
