traveling in the 'tin hare' over the Rimutaka Range, October 1955



Nearly at the end of the Rimutaka Incline era.  These railcars had been introduced in 1936 to provide faster services than the steam locomotive hauled trains for passengers, although passengers noted that the experience was characterised by much wheel flange squealing on the curves.
