The newest Austrian locomotive at the time, and at the time the class 1044 Bo-Bo type was the most powerful four-axle locomotives in the world with a rating of 5,000 kW (6,710 hp). A total 217 were built, including 2 prototypes. As from 2009 there has been a rebuilding program into the class 1144. See earlier post.
