refrigerated rail cars, New York, circa 1904


New dairy product cars of the Merchants Despatch Transportation Company. It's not clear if these were fitted with refrigeration equipment or were just extra-insulated cars which had ice dumped in them, which would have slowly melted  -- the apparent rise in the floors in the centers suggests the latter.
