electrification of the railway from Milan to Monza, Italy, 1899

This 13 km line was the second railway built in Italy, in 1840, after Naples - Portici and today is a segment of the Milan - Chiasso route, as well as being used by trains to Lecco (via Molteno and Carnate) and Bergamo (via Carnate).  It was, according to this card, the first electrified railway in Italy; the vehicles were battery railcars but later it was electrified in the Italian standard 3 kV DC from overhead.
