A carnage was probably narrowly avoided on Friday afternoon in a high speed Thalys train traveling between Amsterdam and Paris. The 26 year old Moroccan, Ayoub El Khazani (or Khazzani), who had been reported by Spanish intelligence services to their French counterparts in 2014, had boarded it in Brussels. At Arras he opened fire and seriously wounded two people before being overpowered by passengers, including two US soldiers and one American student, and placed in custody.
