an 0-4-0T at Matamau, 1880s

A 43, built by Dubs & Co in 1875, is seen at the little station of Matamau on the Hawkes Bay line, with what looks to be a couple of passenger cars. The little engine was withdrawn from NZR in 1889 and used on the Sanson Tramway to 1910.

Although the station is diminutive, the nearby Matamau viaduct is not. For more, see our books.
