On 15 June 1215, King John of England sealed the Magna Carta at Runnymede on the banks of the Thames giving the people a say in how the country is run and establishing the Rule of Law whereby people are protected from arbitrary government.
An event worth noting as the Magna Carta was a predecessor of several important declarations on human rights including the US Declaration of Independence and more from the 20th century.
