posters of the 'Lusitania' sinking a century ago

On 7 May 1915, the 31,550 GRT Cunard ship Lusitania en route from New York to Liverpool was torpedoed and sunk by a German U-boat, approximately 11 miles (18 km) off the Old Head of Kinsale Lighthouse in 300 ft (91 metres) of water causing the deaths of 1,198 passengers and crew, including 128 Americans. The Germans claimed the ship was carrying munitions, although clear evidence supporting this was not obtained from the wreck until recent times. See earlier post.
