1938 Curtiss Aerocar behind a 1938 Chevrolet Truck

The coupling between the truck and trailer took the form of a horizontal wheel ('5th wheel') which acted as a swivel - this made for a smooth ride on the roads without the usual jerks.  More details and photos of this one are here
