comment on big truck crash frequency

A letter to the editor in today's Dominion Post, Wellington :-

The recent truck crash in Ngauranga Gorge is another reminder of the frequency of such heavy vehicle accidents (Crash disrupts gorge traffic, March 11).

In October 2014 these accidents were occurring nationally at the rate of between two and three per week. In the first two months of 2015 there were five such accidents in Hawke's Bay alone.

Such events cause serious disruption to other road users, injuries to drivers and costly delays to road users. If any other mode of transport had such a record there would be an immediate call for a public enquiry.
