a Baldwin Q in 1911

Location not given, but an inspired hunch is near Dunedin.  This shows Q346, one of the 13 of this class from the 1900s.  Although numerically small, it was the first time that the 4-6-2 wheel arrangement had been used anywhere, and thus it was dubbed "Pacific".  It was to become a very widespread type.  For more, see our books.
