Tokyo subway poster, 1927

This was the year that Tokyo and Japan's first underground line was opened - the Ginza Line on 30 December 1927, publicized as "the first underground railway in the Orient." The line's length was only 2.2 km between Ueno and Asakusa.  The cars were the 1000 series, one of which, car 1001, is now in the Tokyo Subway Museum - webpage
