VW Beetle on the top of Haast Pass

The measurements on the signpost being given in imperials dates this to before the mid-1970s. As the signs suggest, this pass, named after explorer Julius von Haast, is the highest point on the road, 564 metres, between the Westland and  Otago regions and the historic provincial boundary.  For lots more like this, see the book 50 Years of Volkswagens in New Zealand.
