Pinillos Line

This is a Spanish shipping company founded in Cádiz in 1840 by Miguel Martínez de Pinillos and Saenz de Velasco and still in existence. The pic is part of a poster showing the Valbanera built in 1906 by Connell of Glasgow. Her demise was the greatest tragedy of the Spanish Merchant Marine as 488 people died, all the passengers and crew on board.

The approximate date was 10 September 1919. On the 7th the ship left Santiago de Cuba to Havana despite the imminent arrival of a hurricane, hoping to reach the destination beforehand. Unfortunately the ship did not.  More
