environmentally friendly passenger transport
Which one of these forms is the least environmentally-friendly? Yes, the aircraft. The problems are both the amount of fuel required for the journey relative to the weight and the distance, and the fact that unlike surface vehicles, there are no emissions standards for aircraft engines.
The car isn't good either, compared with the bus and the train.
If you want to make a personal difference to the global emissions problem, one thing you do is where practical, swap the car for the bus or the train, and even when it comes to long distance, consider these instead of the plane. In Europe the high speed intercity trains make this a no-brainer anyway. In the US and Canada, it's less a obvious choice for businesspeople, but for holiday-makers it's a good way to experience a relaxed journey though often scenic terrain.
