relevant comment on bookstore closures

From the stuff website in regard to the pending closure of Capital Books in Wellington.  In fact, Capital Books has been one of the few surviving NZ bookshops specializing in anything, and the only physical "bricks and mortar" specialist shop for technology and transport left in the country.

It is sad. Bookstores have filled an important role and I know many people just love them for their ambiance etc. However I do buy most of my books online, not because they're cheaper, but because NZ bookstores are too generalist to cater to my needs. Fiction I can get from the library (although I prefer audiobooks now) because I will read it once and then give it back so someone else can read it. But most of my online purchases are specialist non-fiction that even the public libraries blanche at buying.
