the 'Orizaba'


The Pacific Steam Navigation Company’s steam ship R.M.S. (Royal Mail Steamer) Orizaba was launched in 1886, designed for the joint Australian Mail Service route with the Orient Line. She ran aground on Garden Island near Fremantle on 17 February 1905 and remains a wreck today.

Data: 460’ (149 metres) x 49.3’ (15 metres), 6,077 tons; accommodation for 126 fist class, 154 second class and 413 third class passengers, top speed 16 knots; cargo capacity 1,000 tons.
