the Union Steam Ship Company ship 'Manuka' 1903-1929

Built in 1903 by Denny of Dumbarton, Scotland, Manuka was wrecked at Long Point (Irihuka) between Bluff and Dunedin during a voyage from Melbourne to Wellington on 16 December 1929 after hitting a reef. There were approximately 283 passengers and crew on board. The captain and crew ensured that passengers boarded lifeboats and there was no loss of life from the sinking.
