the 'Takasago Maru', 1937


A poster from the time this was completed by Mitsubishi in Nagasaki as a passenger-cargo ship for the Osaka Shosen (OSK Line) in 1937 for Japan - Taiwan service. Requisitioned by the Imperial Japanese Navy in 1941, she was converted to a hospital ship. After WW2 she was used as a transport for the Allied Repatration Service from 1945 to 1947. She was sold for scrap in 1956.

Data: Tonnage 9,347 grt.; Length 818 ft (249 metres), Propulsion: 2 steam turbines, 2 shafts, 8,500 SHP, Top speed: 20.2 knots. Passenger capacity: 1079.
