away to Algeria and Tunisia by the PLM and the CG Transatlantique, 1910

Complete with a stanza from a Victor Hugo poem, La Captive:

J'aime de ces contrées
Les doux parfums brûlants,
Sur les vitres dorées
Les feuillages tremblants,
L'eau que la source épanche
Sous le palmier qui penche,
Et la cigogne blanche
Sur les minarets blancs.

[I love these regions
The sweet burning scents,
On the golden windows
The trembling leaves,
The water which the source pours out
Under the leaning palm tree
And the white stork
On the white minarets.]
