NZR DAA 1401 in Te Rapa, May 1975

In 1970, six members of the DA class - locomotives 1400-04 and 1406 - were withdrawn from mainline duties and reassigned as heavy shunters to work in the new Te Rapa hump yard north of Hamilton. They received additional low speed controls and were reclassified as the DAA class. These units received gold stripes to differentiate them from other DAs. They were later replaced by DSG and DSJ shunters.See earlier posts on the DA.
