diesel-electric railcar, India, 1934


A cigarette card issued as part of a series on world railways. The info on the back of this one stated that it was the first diesel-electric to be used on Indian State Railways and was introduced in 1934 on the 60 mile (96 km) single track rugged Kalka-Simla section on which there 21 stations, and climbed from 2,143 ft (653 metres) at Kalka to 6,840 ft (2,085 metres) at Simla.

The railcar was said to have 95 bhp and seated 16 passengers.
