Ventura Freeway, Los Angeles, February 1971

It may look like a typical rush hour jam scene, but it was actually taken 2 days after the San Fernando earthquake of 9 February 1971 when northern highways were blocked by earthquake damage, requiring this east-west route to be used. The Los Angeles river, normally dry at that time of year, had water in it as the badly damaged Van Norman Dam was still being drained.
