ship 'Windhuk'

As featured on a Namibia stamp from 1999. Windhuk is the German spelling of Windhoek (same pronunication), the capital of German South West Africa (now Namibia), occupied by South Africa from 1919 to 1990.

The ship was built in 1936 for the Deutsche Ost-Afrika Linie and spent the first 3 years of WW2 in Brazil before Brazil interned the ship.  She was sabotaged by the German crew and in 1944 Brazil sold it to America and, refurbished, was used by the US Navy as USS Lejeune until 1948. More info
