Rock Island red, 1960s

Rock Island numbers 751 and 750 were specially designated E6B units with just one engine, cab and baggage compartment. One engine wasn't found powerful enough so they were given twin engines and put into suburban service, as shown here in this 1960s postcard.

  1. Originally built for the Rocky Mountain Rocket. Train was split at Limon Colo with the road engines taking the Denver portion on to its destination and the E6B taking the Colorado Springs section onwards. East of Limon the units ran as a combined set. In 1965 the two units were converted to operate Push-pull trains in Chicago.
