it is illegal to use a cellphone when driving in California

Even when stopped at a red light.  One of us learned this from a motorcycle cop yesterday, and the fine is $160.  On that occasion it was a warning but from the number of drivers you see with cellphones clutched to their ears, it seems the message hasn't got through much.
